The hardest case in watchmaking to copy
An Audemars Piguet case is mostly flat surfaces meeting at defined angles, and flat surfaces punish sloppy finishing. On an AP-made Royal Oak, the brushed top of the bezel meets a polished chamfer along a line that stays razor-straight from screw to screw. Weak clones round that line off, or let the polish creep over the edge. That single transition says more about a factory's grinding discipline than any spec sheet, and it goes under the loupe first when new 26320OR.OO.1220OR.01 or 26470ST.OO.A027CA.01 samples land.
The Tapisserie dial is the other giveaway. Its small squares must be cut to consistent depth with a uniform pyramid pitch, and the pattern has to hold under the applied markers where light rakes across at a shallow angle.
