The bezel decides a Submariner

Every serious look at a Submariner clone starts at the bezel. It has to click in 120 unidirectional steps, each landing firmly rather than mushing between positions, and the pearl at twelve has to sit dead centre in its capsule. Loose bezels and off-centre pearls are the faults we reject most often. On a ceramic insert the numerals are recessed and filled rather than printed on top: run a fingernail across them, and a printed one feels smooth.

The dial markers matter almost as much: applied blocks with a white gold-effect surround, the lume plots inside sitting level with it, neither sunken nor domed over. Held at an angle, a good example shows a clean bright line and a poor one shows lume crept over the edges.

What the 20 Submariner references include

The 116610LV Hulk pairs a green dial with a green ceramic bezel — the hardest colour match here, since a slightly wrong green on either part is obvious. The 114060 is the no-date case shape, offered here with a green dial treatment rather than the original's black. The 16613 is the two-tone blue configuration, where the join between metals on the bracelet centre links is the tell. The 16800 rounds out the older-reference end: the original wore an aluminium insert, so the ceramic-look bezel here is a modern substitution rather than a period-correct detail. Case, movement and honest limits

Cases use 904L steel on the applicable references, under sapphire with anti-reflective coating. Movements are Swiss-grade clone automatic, around 48 hours of reserve, with a Japanese Miyota option on every reference. This is a dive watch by design, not by capability: water resistance is everyday, roughly 50 metres, so swimming and diving are not recommended whatever the bezel implies.
