The movement is automatic, so the seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks and the watch winds itself as you wear it. The case is stainless steel, finished by hand — brushed surfaces stay brushed and polished edges keep a clean line. Can you actually see the movement through the skeleton dial?
Yes. The skeleton dial is transparent or semi-transparent, allowing a clear view of the movement and balance wheel. Visibility is one of the main appeals of this variant.
Is the transparent dial durable enough for daily wear?
The dial material (often sapphire or acrylic) is durable, but it can cloud or scratch over time with heavy use. Avoid harsh chemicals and extreme abrasion.
Does the transparent dial affect water resistance?
No. The dial transparency is sealed behind the sapphire crystal, so water resistance is maintained. The movement inside is still protected.
What is the difference between skeleton and a see-through case back?
Skeleton means the dial itself is transparent or has windows. A see-through case back is a clear exhibition back on the rear. Some watches have one, both, or neither.

What the Submariner is
The Submariner 114200 with a skeleton dial is unusual—showing through to the movement, exposing the mechanical heart. It is not a traditional dial at all, but rather a view into the watch's inner working. The word perpetual refers to the automatic movement. This is a mechanic's Submariner.
How our clone follows it

The skeleton view is striking—you see the balance wheel, bridges, and gears through the dial. In QC, we verify that the movement is clean and that the dial transparency allows clear views without distortion.
On the wrist
A skeleton Submariner reads very differently from a solid-dial variant. It is conversation-starting and technical. At 40mm it is still comfortable for daily wear, though the exposed mechanism is not for conservative tastes. If you compare it to the 16610 (solid black dial), you are choosing between visibility and tradition.
