The Santos, screw by screw

Two Santos sit in this group: the 40mm with the anthracite grey dial, and the skeleton, WHSA0026. Both are replicas. The exposed screws are the first thing anyone touches: heads level with the bezel surface, no burr on the slot edges, no drift in height from one to the next. The second test is the run of Roman numerals, which must hold even spacing as the dial squares off at the corners, with the numeral printing at the right weight, crisp at the edges rather than smeared. The skeleton adds the harder job: there the numerals are the bridges, so any softness in the bevels reads as softness in the whole watch.

Tank, Baignoire, Panthère

The Tank Louis Cartier (WGTA0067) is decided at the lugs. Case and strap meet almost without a gap, and the brancards should carry straight into the strap edge with no shoulder; a millimetre of misalignment there ages the watch by a decade. The Baignoire (HP101607) runs quartz, as the reference does, and lives on the evenness of its oval. The Panthère Small at 22mm lives on its bracelet, which has to pour over the wrist rather than hinge in steps. That fluidity is a linking job rather than a finishing job, which is why we film the bracelet moving.

One price across the five

All five are $1,388, with no tier above or below. Movements are Swiss-grade clone automatics of about 48 hours' reserve, except where the model itself is quartz - the Baignoire among them. Case metal follows the reference, 904L where the original uses it, gold plating where appropriate, under anti-reflective sapphire; treat the water resistance as everyday, near 50 metres, and keep it out of the water proper. You see photographs and a QC video of your own watch, and it does not leave until you approve it.
