The movement is automatic, so the seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks and the watch winds itself as you wear it. The case is stainless steel, finished by hand — brushed surfaces stay brushed and polished edges keep a clean line. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, 50 m water resistance for daily wear.

Will the date window stay clean after months of wear?
The sapphire crystal and anti-reflective coating are durable for daily use. Dust and finger marks clean with a soft cloth. The date numeral itself does not discolour or peel.
Does the day indicator match the real calendar?
Yes. The mechanism advances at midnight. Some clones advance at 3 a.m. or earlier; ours does not. If you set it manually, wind to midnight to avoid damage.
How often should I wind it if I don't wear it daily?
The 48-hour power reserve means it will run three days if fully wound and then not worn. If you leave it unwound, give it 20–30 turns on the crown before putting it on.
Is there a dial variant on this reference I should know about?
The 218238 dial is consistent on our listing. If you want a dial colour choice, the 218239 and 218206 siblings offer black or champagne dials.

What the Day-Date is
The Day-Date is Rolex's formal sports watch, built to sit equally well under a cuff or over a jumper. Its hallmarks are the cyclops-magnified date window at 3 o'clock and the day-of-week indicator that sits at 12 o'clock in an arch above the dial.
The 218238 is the larger modern iteration: 40mm in stainless steel with a modern dial finish.
How our clone follows it
We match the original in case size (40mm), 904L stainless steel and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The movement is a Swiss-grade automatic with roughly 48 hours of power reserve. Water resistance is 50 metres—enough for daily wear and washing.
When we photograph this reference for QC, we focus on date window alignment: the frame must sit square in the window and the numeral must sit centred without creep to either edge. The day dial should advance crisply and sit flush.
On the wrist
This is a medium-large watch: 40mm reads confident without dominating the wrist. The weight of stainless is substantive, making this a dress-sport hybrid. If you prefer something slimmer, the Rolex 218206 sits at 41mm in the same collection; for a vintage feel, compare the Rolex 18038.
