The movement is automatic, so the seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks and the watch winds itself as you wear it. Why would anyone put a sport chronograph in yellow gold?
Rolex made the choice to elevate the Daytona across all price tiers. Gold versions allow collectors to own the same chronograph in precious metal if they choose. It's an extension of the same watch into luxury territory.
Is the yellow-gold finish durable or prone to scuffing?
The gold tone is applied during manufacture and is quite durable under normal wear. Scratches and scuffs may appear over years, but they don't peel or flake. A qualified watchmaker can polish out minor scratches if desired.
How does yellow gold interact with the tachymeter bezel printing?
The bezel scale is printed in black (typically) on the gold case. Black on gold offers good contrast and legibility. The tachymeter is decorative unless you actively use the chronograph for speed calculation.
At 40mm, does the yellow gold feel noticeably heavier than steel?
Negligibly. The gold tone adds no real weight; the stainless steel base is the same. Perception of heft is identical; only the visual warmth differs, making it feel lighter psychologically.
