The movement is automatic, so the seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks and the watch winds itself as you wear it. The case is stainless steel, finished by hand — brushed surfaces stay brushed and polished edges keep a clean line. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, 50 m water resistance for daily wear.

How does the Roman numeral dial differ from stick markers?
Roman numerals are I, V, X, and L shapes printed on the dial, replacing the straight baton markers on steel sports models. This version carries a classical aesthetic and pairs well with the grey finish. Applied numerals like these are checked for alignment in our QC work.
Will the grey dial show scratches easily?
A matte grey finish does show dust and fingerprints more readily than sunburst dials, though minor marks vanish in most lighting. We recommend a soft microfibre cloth between wears. The coating itself is hardy; the finish is the vulnerable element.
What does the date window look like here?
The date disc rotates once daily and shows the numeral in a window at 3 o'clock, framed with a white ring. We check in the QC photo that the date numeral sits dead centre within the aperture and that the frame sits flush without gaps or tilt.
Why does the crystal have an anti-reflective coat?
Anti-reflective coating on both sides of the sapphire lets light pass through rather than bounce back at you. The dial reads clearer in sunlight and the face appears less reflective. On our clones, we verify the coating is even and completely free of scratches or peel.

On the wrist
At 41 mm, this watch sits comfortably on most wrists as a dress-sport piece. Steel gives it a moderate weight that feels grounded without being heavy. If you prefer a smaller Datejust, the Rolex 179174 steps down to 36 mm but keeps the Roman numeral dial, and the Rolex 16233 offers the same 36 mm case with applied stick markers instead.
