The movement is automatic, so the seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks and the watch winds itself as you wear it. The case is stainless steel, finished by hand — brushed surfaces stay brushed and polished edges keep a clean line. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, 50 m water resistance for daily wear.

Why is the GMT hand orange on this model?
The orange GMT hand is a distinctive feature of the early 1655 Explorer II. The bright orange provides high contrast against the white dial, making GMT tracking highly visible in field conditions. The orange is applied at manufacture and is stable under normal wear.
How large does the 42mm case feel compared to 40mm?
42mm is noticeably larger than 40mm. The case feels substantial and commanding on larger wrists. Smaller-wristed buyers may find it too large; try the Rolex 16570-0004 at 40mm for a smaller option.
Is the orange GMT hand finish durable?
Yes. The orange finish is applied at manufacture and is stable under normal wearing. UV exposure or chemical contact may affect the colour over extended years, but typical daily use will not dull or fade the orange.
What is the purpose of the white dial on this reference?
The white dial provides high contrast for legibility in low-light expedition conditions. The hour markers and printed indices show clearly against the white. The orange GMT hand adds further visual contrast for easy time-zone tracking.

What the 1655 Explorer is
