The movement is automatic, so the seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks and the watch winds itself as you wear it. The case is stainless steel, finished by hand — brushed surfaces stay brushed and polished edges keep a clean line. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, 50 m water resistance for daily wear.

Is the 24-hour bezel functional for GMT tracking?
The 24-hour bezel is fixed and marked with 24-hour hour indices. It is used with the GMT hand for second-time-zone tracking. The bezel does not rotate; it is a fixed reference ring. The GMT hand pointer provides the time-zone information.
How does the vintage 40mm compare to modern Explorer models?
The vintage 16570 has thicker case sides, deeper lug curves, and proportions distinctive to that era. Modern Explorer models (124270) have updated case lines and finishing. Both are 40mm stainless, but the vintage carries classic field-watch aesthetics.
What does GMT hand do on an Explorer II?
The GMT hand provides a second-time-zone reference. It rotates independently from the hour hand and works in conjunction with the 24-hour bezel. Both are functional for expedition and field work where time-zone tracking is essential.
Is the bezel case or dial for a fixed-bezel watch?
The fixed bezel is part of the case, not the dial. It is machined into the case ring and does not rotate. The 24-hour markings and indices are applied at manufacture. The bezel's primary function is visual reference for the GMT hand.

How our clone follows it
We build this at 40mm in 904L stainless steel with sapphire crystal and anti-reflective coating. Water resistance is approximately 50 metres for daily wear. The Swiss-grade clone automatic movement runs for roughly 48 hours with a functional GMT hand. In QC photographs we verify 24-hour bezel marking and alignment, dial print sharpness, the GMT hand function, and case finishing. The vintage dial texture and hour marker style are checked closely. Crystal coating and bracelet taper receive attention next.

The 40mm case suits most wrists. The vintage proportions feel more robust than contemporary Explorer models, with deeper case sides and a thicker profile.
