The Navitimer: pilot's chronograph and collector's piece

The Navitimer is Breitling's flagship, a slide-rule chronograph designed for pilots but embraced by collectors for its functional complexity and visual presence. The dial is dense with indices, a rotating bezel carries the slide-rule scales, and the chronograph subdials sit symmetrically across the face. The watch combines serious timekeeping function with aesthetic presence, a reference that rewards study and use. Our five Navitimer references

The Breitling A19340 is a historical reference, 43mm and a Navitimer Olympus variant. The AB0127211B1A1 is 42mm and a Navitimer B01 modern production variant. The AB0127211B1P2 is 43mm, also B01 lineage. The AB0121C4-C920-447A is the larger 44mm Navitimer 01. The AB0127211C1A1 is the most generous at 46mm, a Navitimer B01 large size. All five are stainless steel with automatic movements.

What we inspect in Navitimer QC

The Navitimer's slide-rule bezel is the centrepiece and must sit perfectly square to the case without tilt or rock. We photograph the bezel head-on to confirm the engraved scales are sharp and readable. The chronograph subdials—30-minute, 60-second and 12-hour—must be evenly spaced and level; any tilt affects the visual balance. The applied logo, often in gilt or polished finishing, must sit centred without skew. The dial finish, typically a sunburst or deep metallic tone, must be even across the surface. The pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock must sit flush and engage smoothly. Finally, the bracelet taper and endlink fit are critical on a watch of this cost; the clasp must engage precisely.

Choosing by size and reference

If you have a smaller wrist or prefer a vintage proportion, the 42–43mm clones offer classic wear. The 44mm Navitimer 01 sits between classic and bold. The 46mm B01 is a statement piece, ideal for larger wrists. Your choice depends on wrist size and whether you want a historical reference (Olympus, earlier A19340) or a modern production variant (B01 series). All five carry the same warranty and QC process.
